Frequently Asked Questions

What is the current EPF interest rate in India?

The EPFO-declared interest rate for FY 2024-25 is 8.25% per annum. This rate is reviewed annually by the central board of trustees. The interest is calculated monthly but credited to your EPF account at the end of the financial year.

What is the difference between EPF and EPS?

EPF (Employee Provident Fund) is the main retirement savings account. Your 12% contribution and your employer’s 3.67% contribution go here and earn interest. EPS (Employees’ Pension Scheme) receives your employer’s 8.33% share and provides a monthly pension after retirement — this amount is not part of your PF balance and does not compound.

Can I withdraw my EPF before retirement?

Yes. EPF can be partially or fully withdrawn under certain conditions: after 2 months of unemployment, for medical emergencies, home purchase or renovation, education, and marriage. A full withdrawal is allowed if you have been unemployed for more than 2 months. TDS applies if withdrawal is made before completing 5 years of continuous service.
