PhonePe Transaction Receipt — Fields Explained

Every PhonePe receipt or payment confirmation screen contains the following fields:

Transaction IDA unique ID generated by PhonePe for every transaction. Use this to track or dispute a payment within the app.
UTR NumberUnique Transaction Reference — an NPCI-assigned number that identifies the payment across India's banking network. This is the most important ID for bank-level disputes.
UPI Reference IDThe reference number shared between the payer's and receiver's banks at the time of settlement.
Sender VPAVirtual Payment Address of the person who sent the money (e.g., yourmobile@ybl). VPA is your UPI ID on PhonePe.
Receiver VPAVirtual Payment Address of the recipient (e.g., merchant@axisbank or friend@oksbi).
AmountThe exact rupee amount transferred, shown to two decimal places.
StatusPayment status: SUCCESS, PENDING, or FAILED. Always verify this is SUCCESS before leaving a merchant.
Date and TimeTimestamp of when the transaction was initiated, in IST.
Payment ToName of the recipient — either a registered PhonePe user name or a merchant name.

PhonePe vs Google Pay Receipts — Key Differences

Both PhonePe and Google Pay use the UPI network, so many fields are identical. However, there are a few differences in how receipts are presented:

Tip: The UTR number is universal across all UPI apps. Whether you paid via PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, or any other UPI app, your bank can locate any transaction using the UTR number alone. Always save this number for important payments.

How to Download PhonePe Transaction History

Need a statement of all your PhonePe transactions for expense filing or tax purposes? Here is how:

  1. Open the PhonePe app and tap your profile icon (top left).
  2. Go to Payment History or tap on the specific transaction.
  3. On a specific transaction, tap the share icon to send the receipt as an image.
  4. For a full statement, go to Profile → Bank Accounts → View Statement to request a PDF transaction statement from your linked bank.
  5. PhonePe also allows downloading a transaction summary from the Help section under "Transaction History Download".

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Transaction ID and UTR number?

The Transaction ID is PhonePe's internal identifier. The UTR (Unique Transaction Reference) is the banking network's identifier assigned by NPCI. For disputes with your bank, always use the UTR number. For disputes within the PhonePe app, use the Transaction ID.

My PhonePe payment shows SUCCESS but the money hasn't reached the receiver — what do I do?

This can happen due to inter-bank settlement delays, which typically resolve within 24–48 hours. If the issue persists, note your UTR number and contact both PhonePe support and your bank's customer care. NPCI's BHIM UPI helpline (1800-120-1740) can also assist with cross-bank disputes.

Can I use a PhonePe receipt for office reimbursement?

A PhonePe transaction screenshot or PDF is widely accepted as proof of payment for expense reimbursements. For larger amounts or formal accounting, your company may require a proper tax invoice from the vendor in addition to the payment receipt.
